We are sorry to have to report the untimely death of James Sebring, Sr.,  on December 22nd, 2006 at the age of 73.  The obituary from the Baltimore Sun is shown below.

Omitted from the obituary was a suggestion that in lieu of sending flowers, it would be appreciated if a donation could be made to:  The Amyloidosis Research Foundation,  4174 Meyers Avenue, Waterford, Michigan, 48329.  More information about that organization and the disease can be found at:   http://www.amyloidosisresearchfoundation.org/amyloidosisInfo/index.html

Ann reports that Jim had lived most of his life with only one kidney, and when he developed Amyloidosis, a blood disease, a number of years ago, the proteins that were produced damaged his only kidney, and he had to undergo dialysis periodically, and was a candidate for a new kidney.   The doctors did not want to do a kidney transplant while he had the Amyloidosis,  so they gave him stem cell treatments,, which were effective in clearing up the Amyloidosis, thus preventing any further kidney damage.   His daughter, who had the same blood type had a matching kidney and was prepared to  given it to him in an operation that was  scheduled for January of 2007.

However in early December, Jim developed an staphylocci infection, believed to have been caused during dialysis.   The infection attacked a heart valve, which  the doctors did not think could be repaired without great risk, and Jim succumbed to the infection and the heart damage on the 22nd of December, only eleven days after entering the University of Maryland hospital..

Jim had a long and varied career with Bendix.  After his original tour with the Bendix Communications Division from 1960 to 1979,  he moved to become General Manager of the Bendix Division in Davenport, Iowa, then was a director at the Bendix Frieze  Division on Taylor Avenue in Towson.  He then moved to Avionics Division in Florida, and then to the Teterboro Division in New Jersey.  He then retired from Bendix and moved back to Phoenix, MD.   Jim then continued to do consulting work for the Navy at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station Complex.

Jim had fun playing golf, bridge and dancing. We will all miss his cheery and good-natured humor and manner.

Jim's wife Ann can be reached at 410-472-4808.

Mail may be sent to:  14 Old Forge Garth, Sparks Glencoe, MD, 21152-8856
